The Happy Life
I was hub reading today when I noticed a question. What makes a life happy? I thought, Oh I will quickly put my 'wisdom' in and move on. Typical, silly me tends to be a bit long winded, if you have not noticed. (-; Start me up and I am an energizer Bunni that keeps going and going. Well, as I was into writing the answer before long a red sentence pops up. 'You have too many words for the question.' I decide to go and read a few of the answers. I was dismayed not one of the answers was close to what I was thinking. I think it sort of blew me away. Not that I am all puffed up and have your answer. I can relate to where you come from I was there at one time in my life.
I understand a shinny new vehicle makes one feel happy. Wow what a feeling. I looked to the external the 'worldly' treasures or to people, places or things to fill me with happiness. For me it was a long road to fill the empty hole inside of me. All my fixes were temporary. I put a band-aid on the wound and eventually it fell off and the wound was still there. I would try another band-aid. The same results, the band-aid would fall of sooner or later. I still had the wound. So FYI I am sharing what I know about happiness. I decided to write and see what would come out of the question. I had no idea this would turn into a hub.
It Goes to show me what do I know? I chuckle at myself. I can make plans but I do not plan the outcome because it never turns out the way I see in my minds eye or my end result. I Thank God. His outcome is far superior to my finite thinking. God works out the outcome. I do not have too any longer. I have a freedom and joy today that completes me. Maybe you are all happy and everything you 'need' including God is working fine thank you.
It is my hearts desire that this answer may help you in finding your 'happy life' The Spirit in me leads me along the way.To help God makes me feel happy. It is not always easy, serving Christ is action. In my journey I know 'HE' is the only road that does not change. Happy changes. Things come and go. They cost money. They are temporary. It is hard to stay happy. It costs allot of money. Money can buy temporary happy. I like money I could use a bit of that 'green'. But the happy I know today that is lasting it is Jesus Christ.
Life hands out a few hard knocks. People Change. Plans Change. The boyfriend leaves. Nothing you planned is happening. You have the home with the picket fence. You are happy. Your husband has a great job. Your kids are healthy. The bills are paid. You get your vacation two times per year to the Islands. You help at cheer leading. You help at charity;s. You give when you can. You go to Church. You know about God. You are all OK. You have money stashed for your kids college. 'THE WORLD' is in dire straights but it will come back around, this is part of how the 'world' turns.
Your are sad because your best friends husband lost his job and they have to move. This is a sad part of life. She said she would never move again. They had their dream home. They are going to an apartment 15 miles away. You will always be her best friend. You understand. You hold her when she cries. You are a good friend, she tells you. You are there for her. You help her pack. You are having a luncheon for her. You are a sweetheart, everyone tells you. She has no money for movers, you have some stashed you will give $200 to help her. You are a best friend. Maybe you could talk your husband into lending them $500 until they get settled. That would really help her. Life is good to you. They have had some tough luck.You sent a check to 'WORLD HUNGER'' most do not. It makes you feel so happy inside to give. You know you are helping a child in need.
You feel a bit uneasy inside because your teenage son is slipping in school. It must be his father needs to have 'that talk' and spend a bit more time with him. He seems a bit thinner to you. You will fix it, with the cake he loves. You will do better, you will cook things he likes more often. You and your husband can fix this. You must talk to hubby tonight. Tomorrow is a big day with the luncheon and helping your friend. You need to feel better inside. Your husband always helps you. You have such a happy life and such a good man. Your son is in soccer, star player. It is all good. Besides if his best friend would go with him to 'teen church' he would be happier about going. You will talk to Adrian. You can help fix this. A little more of Dad and best friend to church camp will fix it up. You think you are working a bit to hard. You know to slow down, go to yoga, breathe. You seem to be loosing money here and there. You need to learn to focus a bit more. You tell your children all the time. Focus on what you do. It will help so you can keep things in order easier. You will not loose your cell phones or pod's, so focus. What you do not know yet is your son has found a friend called meth. The happy life may get a bit rough here.
Oh darn your husband calls and says he has to work late till one or two AM. They must finish a project. He tells you to go on to bed and he will speak with Adrian tomorrow, not to worry. He suggests that maybe you should take another yoga session that might help with the stress. He is right you need to take care of you, so you can help your family. It is odd your husband has to work late, they finished that project. Maybe another one came up fast.
God created each one of us in our mothers womb for a reason, we were born for a purpose and a plan. We come to an age of accountability where we can choose to invite Jesus into our heart as our Lord and Savior or not and do life another way. So being 'Born Again' requires action. We are given free will. If we choose to ask Jesus Christ into our heart, confess and repent of our sin and believe in our hearts he died on the cross for us we are made righteous in HIM, If we believe he took on all the sin of the world and in believing. asking and confessing our sin we are forgiven and become a 'Child of God' and 'Born Again' and Saved from eternal separation from God. We now have a FREE ticket to Paradise, Heaven and Eternal life with God We now have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. It is his desire for us. It is how we get to Heaven. The road is narrow. John 3:16 Jesus does not change or move. He stays the same. He is your constant, honest helper. He is the light. He is the answer to our cares and concerns. He knows how we feel. We are his kids..He promises us HE will help us and strengthn us. He will never leave nor forsake us.
Jesus came so that we could have an abundant life. Abundant is overflowing, full cup, running over, joy complete. NO one can take it from us. We do not have to earn it by good works. It does not cost money or talent. We have to ask Jesus. He came for us so we could be free from sin and be righteous in his eyes. He has promises for us that he will get us through. He wants us to have joy and peace and happiness and nice things. Without Jesus life will mean little. The things stop filling the hole. The drugs stop working. Depending on the world for 'things' is no guarantee. Jesus is the way, truth and life.
I want to spare any religious dogma. You do not need to belong to a church or go and run and join a church when you become a 'Child of God' It is not a requirement but Jesus tells us Faith comes by hearing the 'word'.' The living Bible of Jesus Christ. We do not go to a church for entertainment but to hear the truth about Jesus who died for us. He tells us how to live so we might have the abundant life he came for us to have.We learn who Jesus is and hear his promises and grow in 'HIM' The one thing about God is he will meet us where we are at. He knows our pain and tears. He knows what makes us 'happy' and he knows the desires of our heart. Even if we are not certain, the creator God knows "I AM' is always certain. He designed you, only one of you. You are his creation. I am his creation. He wants none of his creation to perish.
I believe in my Spirit just maybe you are to be reading this if you came this far. Really it is not my 'puffed up head; that wants you to read it is because I love Jesus because he loved me first. I have a responsibility to him. It gives me joy in my heart to tell of Jesus the Savior. God created each and every person that has been born on this planet to be born on a certain day and for a for a purpose and plan for his or her life even .before he laid the foundation of the earth. That is really awesome to me. It is like huge if you think about it. (Ephesians 1: 3-4)
SO for me this is my 'happy life' I am happy, thrilled, honored, Blessed and grateful to know Jesus as my personal Savior. I was empty nothing filled my hole except Jesus Christ. If you struggle this may help you one day or today to make the decision for Jesus.He is my ticket to happiness.People can take happiness from me but joy no one can steal. You have to hand it over. If you take the leap I promise you with each fiber in my heart it will be the best decision you have ever made in your lifetime. Just to think GOD never changes. He loves you and me all the same. The deal is you have to call on Jesus no one can do it for you, but many will help you. The Body of Christ, Children of God all had to make the choice to know Jesus.

I share your hunger for God and your love for our Lord Jesus Christ. I know what you are saying about inner peace and interior happiness. It's all very true. I dissent only with what you said about not needing to belong to any Church, because the word "Church" means the communion of all Christians regarded as the spiritual Body of Christ. Not only people who do not partake of the spiritual Body of Christ cut themselves off from the community of believers, but they also disobey God's Commandment to keep the Sabbath holy by not going to church on Sunday. Being spiritual doesn't exclude being religious. The two go hand in hand. Other than that I agree with you that God alone is our true happiness and that things that we acquire in life by our own efforts only offer us a fleeting sense of satisfaction that we often mistake for happiness. True happiness is a state of being. Very nice hub, and voted interesting.

There is just one thing that I almost do not agree with and that is when you said, "He wants us to have joy and peace and happiness and nice things".
I agreed with the entire sentence until "happy" and "nice things" came into play. Happiness is just a temporary emotional response and nice things only satisfies us in the material world, albeit temporarily. Therefore happiness and nice things can be taken from us, whereas peace and joy are ours in Christ Jesus and no one can take these things away.
Yes, the Almighty wants us to know joy and peace, but I do not know where, in Scripture, that it says He wants us to have "nice things". I know this is what makes Joel O'Steen a multi-millionare (prosperity preaching), but it isn't Biblical.
I think Christians want "nice things", but from what I have read and know of God, He wants us to have as little as possible in this material world, so we don't become so attached to it.
Using Christ as our example, He was neither "happy" nor filled His life with "nice things". In fact, He didn't even have a place to rest His head, and I don't believe His disciple's did either. Didn't Jesus tell the rich young man to give EVERYTHING to the poor and come follow Him?
In fact, the early Christian church was instructed to give according to their ability and only take according to their NEED. Materialism was not a part of Jesus' ministry, nor was it a part of His church.
I do not know if this is what you were trying to say, but I thought I would just mention this because so many Christians have bought into prosperity preaching such as described in Joel O'Steen's heretical book, "Live Your Best Life Now."
The bottom line is God wants us to be faithful and strong, not "happy" and filled with "nice things". In the words of James 2:5 "Listen, my beloved brothers. Has not God chosen the poor in the world to be rich in faith and to be heirs of the kingdom that he has promised to those who love him?"
1 Corinthians 4:11 and 2 Corinthians 11:23-27 should also be considered by all who want to know what life as a Christian can bring them.
Christianity is not for the weak-minded or faint-hearted; it is a tough life for many who choose to walk the straight and narrow path and the evil ones are always there to try and knock them down. Real Christians live for the hereafter and keep eternity in mind each moment of the day, such that, their prosperity is deferred.

Ah, Sis...another hub to help me focus on what I need in my life for true happiness and joy! I appreciate your dedication and pray I experience the best God has to offer on this side of Heaven. Although I have learned that possessions are not the answer, I am still focused on earthly desires to help me achieve happiness. I know you know exactly what I mean since we have been emailing for the last week. You know the desire of my heart, that my Jamie will come into my life. It is still is my heart's desire, but Jesus needs to fill the biggest hole in my lonely heart. It touched my heart...when things are going good we tend to take it for granted that it's going to stay that way. Sudden changes can happen to anyone and when the carpet is pulled out from under us, what is there to hold us up? We have to believe in something deeper, a solid foundation that we can stand up on when all else has fallen. Jesus, and my eternal relationship with Him, is that for me!

It is in serving a Living God that fills us and makes us complete in Christ. Without Christ one will surely die. Christ came so that we might have life and have it more abundantly peace, joy, kindness, meekness, humility, long suffering and gentleness. THINGS are just that things.

Well for material things they are just there, some are good some not,but the love that God gives will never change as it will always be there for those who search for it.

Hapiness is not material things...especially not money. This is really one of the biggest misconception of our time, but then again it must ave something to do with the moneterist thinking that is promoted.
In an ideal world we would have no world poverty or hunger or suffering..and what is the greatest obstacle which keeps a large portion fo the world in this predcament?...it is just money and a lack of it.
Its all quite ironic especially since none of us will be taking a dime along when we die...Happiness can never be located in material things but by doing the best we can to help those in need...to be more conscious of the world around us and not just focused on collecting our own stash of false wealth. Is that not what Chris died for? the greater good of mankind..not becasue he wanted to drive a bmw.

Praise is so awesome, it always takes away my woes. It reminds me the Lord our Savior is always so near. HE promises to,'never leave nor forsake us.' That alone my friend is so precious and dear. Who else can keep a promise as this? Only the Lord and Savior the creater of all. He sits on the throne and knows all our needs. He will care for us and we do not need to be on our knees. He will cover the storms and make us stronger through them all. It is a choice I make to follow the Father. His love is so deep in HIM I will always recover.

Always Greener, A little 'pun' meant there. Did you not understand the correlation between the writing and the Beamer?? What makes you happy?? Sure a BMW would make me very happy. What makes me happier is a relationship with Jesus Christ. He does not change. MY situation changes, I could loose the BMW. I will not loose my place in heaven with Christ. No one can steal or take my joy. Not unless I hand it over. I could lose my job and oops there goes my BMW. My point happiness is an inside job with the ONE truth. Children of GOD are forgiven and will pass on to heaven when this life in 'happy' world ends. It is a choice we make.We can accept Jesus or Not accept Jesus as our Lord and Savior. If external things make one happy well guess what when you go they do not go with you. They are nice to have. I do not have a BMW. My vehicle is like a BMW because it was a gift from the LORD. Pure miracle I got it because of my credit history. Lost jobs,lower wages, foreclosures, so on. Life changes.God does not changes. Had to start over with stuff. I have less stuff but am happier today then I have been in my life. I have a relationship with the king of kings.

Rebeccca E I can see why you have a happy life. You are passionate in what you do and you love others. You give of yourself. You know Christ. He is the reason I have happiness. When things change Rebecca and they always do some of it is not a fun ride.
I am not happy about hungry kids or substance abuse in the world. I am not happy because my husband went to jail for drinking and driving.
I am happy because I have the PROMISE of eternal life with Jesus Christ. I am a 'Child Of God'. He will take care of me. No one can steal this joy. He will turn Davids situation around because David knows and calls on Jesus. God has a plan for David, you and I. If we know Jesus we are forgiven. He will never leave nor forsake us that makes me happy.
Happy is a word that leads to many things and stuff. Happy can be taken away in a heart beat. Christ does not change, He has never broken a promise. He will provide for all my needs.
When we know Jesus as Savior our purpose is to serve him. He is the Good News of salvation.Jesus is going to return soon. We will stand before him. He does not care about how much money we had or the fancy car. He knows our hearts. Did we love him? DId we tell others that Jesus is the way to heaven? We will be given crowns of righteousness because God sent his son to die for us so we could be forgiven. In his eyes I am righteous even though I do ot deserve it. I sin. I work at knowing Jesus and serving him. My heart has changed. He came so we could have abundant life on planet earth. He tells us how to live an abundant life. He is living and he gave us his word. If we Deny Jesus we will be denied.
Jesus Christ is Truth. These are perioulous times we live in. There is only one that can fix it, God the Father. (John 3:16) I am happy because my future is in Heaven. There are no tears, no illness, no sadness.

He is the light. He is the answer to our cares and concerns. He knows how we feel. We are his kids..He promises us HE will help us and strengthn us. He will never leave nor forsake us".
The most important thing is to be 'born again'. That's what our Lord told Nicodemus when he came to Him by night. People will not understand spiritual discussions unless they are truly regenerated by the Holy Spirit. We must be 'born anew', 'born from above', 'born of the Holy Spirit'.

Wonderful. Life is filled with waves, emotions that rock us and shake us, that lift us and drop us. We need a constant. We need an immovable anchor that never lets the storms or the calms lead us away from peace of mind, peace of understanding. There apparently was one constant that kept Yahshua on His path in life and He states it in John 12:27. "Now is My soul troubled; and what should I say? Father, save Me from this hour: but for this cause came I unto this hour." His anchor was always steadfast, always grounded, always focused on the final outcome - Salvation. Peace.

to me what makes a happy life is that i no that in the end i took responsibility for my life and lived it the way i saw fit. nothing is responsible for my actions except me and when i die it will be me that lived my life. strength and believing in others near me makes every day awesome.
Yes, He is our completer! He can truly restore joy and happiness in a person, if they choose:) It is so awesome, how He can heal us from the inside out! There are times when once healed Spiritually in areas in our lives, we are free'd physically of some ailments we could never get rid of before:) His Love is so powerful! Great Hub! I'm really happy right now -happier than I have been for a long time- in fact full of joy and very content and it's because I'm moving towards the plan God has for me -I hope to be in Thailand in 8 weeks Skye - the peace and joy I have is more than enough proof that I'm doing the right thing.I'm selling my furniture to raise money and then my car and it doesn't bother me a bit. It would have done in the past but I've let go off all that now. Material possessions don't make you happy (though they're nice to have)
Sound advise! Calling on Jesus to be my Lord and Savior has been the most pivitol moment of my life. He is my joy!

Skye my sweet sister, this is an awesome hub. We do know that this life is not easy. There is always someone or something ready to burst our bubble of happiness. But thanks to our Almighty Father in Heaven we know that life here is only for a short season.
Because of Jesus' death and shedding of His blood at Calvary we know that we are heading to a much happier place for ETERNITY...
