The road is narrow and few will make it.

At this moment in time Macarius had a heart change. He found his own behaviour to be in-despicable. He felt the Spirit of God on him and knew he was being convicted of sin. He felt he was no better then men who bowed down before other gods. He pleaded forgiveness and would make sacrifice for the atonement for his sin. He felt ashamed. He took his Blessings all to lightly. Many called Macaruis mighty. He cried out, 'The one true God of Abraham, Issac, and Jacob is the All Mighty God, there are no others.' It is because of ALL Mighty God that I have any might.'

Macarius had been like a Moses running all over the camp working diligently to run the situations. He chained himself to circumstances, it was no wonder he felt tired much of the time. He deplored chains, yet by his own accord he himself was chained to believing he could change men. He asked forgiveness and again called out to God. 'My God you are Master. It is by Your mighty hand I live and that Johan lives. There is no amount of shekel's that can save this sons life. Almighty God now I know that it is you that controls the raging waters and calms the seas. Your hand has power to part the seas. A part from you my Lord God all that is built will certainly fall. You give life and you take life.' I will lay down my life for you, Oh my God, I will have no other gods before me.'

Vitus and Timeus heard some loud whaling from their master but with all the noise of the horses they could not hear what Master was speaking. At any rate they were focused on the destination and keeping watch in the road. The dust from the road was flying like a whirl wind under the horses galloping feet and blowing up into their eyes. It was all they could do to see clearly. Vitus felt like he had swallowed a hand full of dust. He needed the fresh, clear water to cleanse his throat and wipe his eyes so he could see.

In a sudden move VItus slowed the horses to a halt. Macarius was stunned at his action. 'What is it son, why do you stop?' Vitus out of breath replied, 'Oh Master, do you recall that there is a back way we can go to the villa? It is a steep incline and rarely traveled. There has been no rainfall so it is dry road. It is a narrow incline and few do make it. Many do have to dig themselves out of the ruts. We do have with us the new tools, if need be. I believe I can keep the horses calm and hand lead them if needed. This road will take much time from the journey to the villa.''

Master we do not know who lives at the Farm house. It could be thieves that have quarters there or evil slave traders. They would rather ravage the boy and leave him for dead then use their supplies or water to help a slave. With respect sir your stature in Roman council would not make much difference because they will assume you of all men would honor the decision. We can take the risk of the narrow road or keep traveling hard and the horses will surely wear out on their own means. We do not have a sufficient supply of water sir.' 'Very well Vitus, I believe as you do. Let us be on our way,' replied Macarius.

Timeus jumped from the wagon. 'Sir with all due respect. If you take a hide and pour the cool water on it and wrap Johan in the soft side the hide will not dry since the sun is going down and the cool will keep his body temperature from rising. The incline is rocky, if the horses should spook Master you will have a better hold of Johan. I do not understand Master, most would not be bothered with such a risk. If I may so say Master, I believe sir it is because the Hand of the Almighty God is upon us. If we all take a drink and give water to the horses we would be all the wise sir.'

'Of course Timeus, please fetch the hide and let us get it wet then rapped around young Johan first, whispered Master.' After all had drank and the horses refreshed the men started up the peak and with the hand of Mighty God they would reach the valley before the sun had set completely.' Let us all pray to our God for his Mercy to be on us, spoke Macarius.' The boys nodded, 'Yes Master.'

The incline was full of rocks and ruts and various tree branches and vines in the way. Timeus was a strong man and cut the vines in a perfect cut. He would then go ahead of the horses to look over the road and move rocks from harms way. Macarius held on to Johan from keeping him sliding or moving around the wagon. He knew that Almighty God was on them. His adrenaline stirred within.

The sun was beginning to set. One could see it go behind the peak and quickly. The men only hoped it would stand still for a time longer. The horses intuitively moved with exact precision and quickly. Vitus spoke to them quietly and they remained calm. Vitus knew horses to be intuitive and a smart lot. He believed they knew they had a mission to get a sick boy to safety.

The sun had set. VItus said calmly, 'Master we have reached the peak of the valley. Going down is a much softer travel. The road is wider and we can traverse. Once we get to the valley the horses will make way with galloping feet to get to their home. It was very dark and only the light of the half moon and stars lit the sky. In what seemed only minutes the horses were galloping on to the villa. Two bolts of material went flying out of the wagon along with scones of cheese. The men cheered in glee praising the God of Abraham, Issac and Jacob.

Once at the villa Macarius told Timeus to hurry along and fetch Aurela. The lady of the house had skills in treating the most ill. Aurela came running out to the wagon. 'Well sir Marcuius this is not what I expected for the evening. Very well, bring the sick boy into the room off of the main household. Fetch boiling water and bring it along to me with five squares of fresh cloth and please bring Sophia here quickly to assist.
