The Greatest Fishing Day Bible Story, ever told

Updated on June 13, 2012

The nets broke

Around the year of 60 many centuries ago lived three master fishermen and their families The village was near a Lake called Gennesaret off of the Sea of Galilee. These men had a hard occupation and made a living with their fishing ships. They toiled many long hours to do so. The village of people relied on the fishermen catch since fish were a healthy source of food and affordable. The men would come in before market in time to sort their catch after a night of fishing. There had been a drought for a time and there had not been a good catch. Since all fishing ships require a skilled crew to manage the work the men had employees to pay who counted on their income. They too had families to feed.

Now Simon Peter owned his boat and partnered with his good friends James and John who were brothers and together they owned the other fishing ship. The men must have been exhausted after working the lake all night and likely disheartened. It is depressing to come home with no fish after a days work. Just like then today there is no difference. In Simmons time like today there are no guarantee's in the Ole hard World. It is easy to be frightened especially if you are trusting in the world or the government for your income and supply. Much of the world today is in such a mess Nations are going bankrupt. To say the least these are very difficult times in which we live. The unemployment is on the rise, not the decline. Like Simon Peter, James and John many today need a miracle in finances. Our own sin can make one to fall and we all fall short the Glory of God.

God wants His children to be His partners in life. He wants to Bless us in our every area of our life and knows we need money to live. He gave us a blueprint on how to live in the world and be prosperous and abundant. God sent a Savior for all the World Jesus Christ and He came so we could have life and might have it more abundantly. John 10:10. Notice this says might have. God has already provided for us. He sent His only begotten son into the world and Jesus paid the price for the sins of the world on the Cross by His shed blood for all of us. It is our part to act on Gods Word. The supply in Gods world never runs short it is overflowing and abundant our part is to have Faith in Him and take action. Faith comes by hearing and hearing by the word of God.(Romans 10:17)

Finances is the subject Jesus shares most about in all of Scripture around 2,000. God knew he was dealing with human beings and the enemy of this world who wants to destroy our lives, finances included. God knew we would really need to understand this so that we could have the abundant life He already gave to us. The scriptures are full of His promises and teachings on sowing and reaping. Jesus is the Way maker and when there looks like no way or seems like no way our God can make the way for those that love Him. (John 14:6) 'God will supply all our needs according to his riches and glory in Christ Jesus' (Phil 4:19) One must be born again of the Spirit of God. God is not going to Bless our finances if we follow the enemy in this world.

On this morning when the men came in from fishing near the sea of Galilee and were washing their nets Simon Peter could not help but notice a man preaching to a crowd of people. The people seemed to draw to Him like fresh cold water in a cup on a hot day. 'The people pressed upon Him to hear the Word of God.' ( Luke 5:1) Simon Peter, James or John had not seen this man before. They had to be a bit curious about this man's teaching. Then the man walked to Simon's boat and got in and sat at the stern. Simon near by, went over and this man, 'prayed him to thrust out the boat so the people could better hear.' (Luke 5:4-5)

Jesus was His name. Little did the fishermen know this day their lives would be changed forever. Jesus does do that for us. His love is greater then any sea or ocean and we cannot fathom how great His love for us in our finite minds. When one asks Jesus into their heart in faith and repent of sin a transformation inside takes place. (John 3:16) Off with the old and on with the new. We are given a new set of eyes to see and ears to hear.

Now the crowd had left and Jesus walked to Simon Peter and said,' go out to the deep and lay down your nets for a drought' (Luke 5:5-6) Simon must have heard something Jesus preached to the people and his heart was softened. Maybe he heard Malachi 3:10,' put me to the test if I will not open and pour out the windows of Heaven running over and filled to the brim.' Simon had his doubts after all they had been toiling the lake all night long. The enemy of our souls will try to fill us with doubt and unbelief with his lies. The enemy comes to steal kill and destroy. (John 10:10) Unbelief was in Simon's heart and mind but his financial need was so great he could have decided to prove Jesus. What if Simon would not have listened to Jesus? He could have lost out on the most wonderful financial Blessing in their day.

God loves you and I He desires that we have a full ship too. Simon, James and John did not know this Jesus yet and look how He Blessed them. Simon Peter proved Jesus and stepped out and followed His instructions. No matter the worlds economy God's economy is thriving and it runs over to the brim there is no shortage, ever. God our Creator has the very best for His children. He wants to Bless all the lives of his children. The World's economy is failing us. Gods economy runs over in magnitudes of unlimited wealth and treasures. There is more then enough. 'God can turn all things for the good for those that love Him. (Romans 8:28)

When Simon saw the catch he fell down at the feet of Jesus knees saying, 'Depart from me Oh Master for I am a sinful man.' Simon Peter from that day on was now called Peter. Peter, James and John left the nets and all to the community to follow Jesus. The Lord had amazing plans for these men just as He does for us. They would go into the world to share the Gospel of Jesus Christ and to heal the sick and make the blind to see. They would lead multitudes to the Savior of Life the Son of the Living God, the Lord Jesus Christ. 'The apostles of Jesus Christ were now fishers of men.' (Luke 5:8-10)

In these days times are dangerous and nothing is for certain in the World. Many fear because they do not know what the future will bring. How can one increase finances in these times? The smaller pay check barely covers the most important bills. God tells us in the blueprint he gave us to follow, The Living Word on how to prosper our finances. God tells us to take our first fruits to the storehouse and He will multiply thirty, sixty or one hundred fold. (Mark 4:3-11)

God has paid the price and I am forgiven. Over the last year I decided to take God as my financial partner. I decided to test God. Malachi 3:10 is the only place in the Bible where God tells us to put Him to the test. 'Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. Test me in this," says the LORD Almighty, "and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that you will not have room enough for it.'

My Friends growing in Christ is a process. Fear and doubt is Satins lie. The enemy does not want us to have wealth because he wants us to blame God. God loves you and I, 'He will never leave nor forsake us.' (Hebrews 3:13) God has provided miracles over and over for me, like Peter to help my unbelief in the area of finance because he is good and wants to pour out to His Children not becasue we deserve it we cannot buy our way into the pearly gates.

If a young person came to me today and asked me what is one thing you wish you would have done different? It would be, 'always giving to the Kingdom of God the first fruits of my finances.' I would rejoice in giving ten percent of any finance that comes to me and put it into Gods Kingdom and give offerings to the poor.' I would rejoice in watching it multiply.

God wants our hearts, He wants us to use the gifts He has so freely given. He wants our passion, talents and skills that He placed in our hearts for the redemtion of mankind in His Glory and Honor. God works through the frailty of man and invites us to participate in His Kingdom. 'We have been given a free will to choose to do good or evil. God grieves when we choose a path of selfishness. He rejoices we we choose love and mercy.'

I relate that when only a small amount comes into the household it can be very frightening. I know because I have been there many times. Take out of the small amount and sow the seed to Gods Kingdom in faith and see what he does for you. It does not matter the amount He tells us to give ten percent of our first fruits. Trust in Him, He wants to Bless you. The ten percent you give will grow and multiply. You will be amazed at how fast God will shine His favor on your faithfullness. Which would you rather have in your hand? A hundred dollar bill or ninety dollars with a guarantee of thirty, sixty or one hundred fold back on the ten dollars you gave to the poor person on the corner? (John 36:32-33)

May you be touched where you need touching today. God loves you and me and desires we have full lives and live in His Economy. He will lead and direct and touch In the name of Jesus Christ. We just need to follow His instructions in each area of our lives including finance for a large bountiful harvest. Praise God. 'Give seed and it will be given back to you shaken, pressed down and running over.'(Luke 6:38)

In Christ Jesus
