A Man after Gods Heart

Chadwick was a precious soul. In spite of his hardship he stood his ground and stayed in the ring. He never gave up the fight. His love for the Lord held him up when his own disabled body wanted to give up the fight for the cause of Christ.

Chadwick had a meager social security disability income. In years there had been no raise while prices continued to rise all around him in every endeavor he encountered. Chadwick seldom complained. He was more then grateful for the roof over his head. He was proud of his small room with his twin bed and worn quilt, two burner cooker, tin coffee pot, small cooler and old wood desk and chair. He shared a bathroom with his neighbors and many took longer then anticipated but that was the smallest of his concerns.

Chadwick's one small window faced the dumpster. He could see above the heap pile into the dumpster. It was rarely a pretty sight but there were days he saw a treasure and was elated. He would sing praises to the God of supply. He always gave credit to the Lord for his finds. He found his two burner stove and tin coffee pot around that dumpster. He gathered items here and there to bless his neighbors. When he took a gift to a friend in the building he had it all shinny and cleaned up with his vinegar and water solution.

One was always blessed to see Chadwick at the door bearing a gift. He just found a beautiful glass vase of pale blue with little black sparrows sitting on a tree painted on it. He cleaned it up, oh so nice. He limped to the corner store and purchased a pink carnation for his precious neighbor friend, Thelma. She was elated. She had but a few teeth in her mouth and smiled in glee. Her gray blue eyes lit up and sparkled. Chadwick had great joy in seeing her happy and blessed. 'Sweet Jesus' Thelma would say, 'thank ye Chadwick.' Praise that sweet Jesus of ours, girl,' replied Chadwick. She felt young when he called her girl. He counted it all joy and went on his way to do his work for Jesus downtown.

The brisk weather called for a hat and gloves on this day. There had been an evening snow and the flakes dusted the ground ever so soft. Chadwick's right foot dragged as he limped along. The weather made his body stiffer then usual but he felt energized in spite of the nabbing sharp pain in his leg. He would be signing up for the Christmas feast for the homeless and less fortunate today. This would be his Fourth year. He so loved this celebration. Hot food and fellowship put a smile on everyones heart, his included. He would wear his best clothes and the suit jacket he wore to church. It was a special day to give Praise and thanks for the Savior of the World.

Today Chadwick had two extra hats and a coat in his possession he found at the dumpster. He only wished he had more. He made his usual stop at the corner store where he had parked his cart each night. He set his Bible inside. On top of his Bible he sat the two hats, coat and cards he got from the church which shared the message of salvation. Chadwick was especially thankful for his cart today. He could lean upon it as he headed to work. He dug deep into his pocket and pulled out 59 cents. He was short a few cents for a cup of hot coffee. He sure longed for that cup of fuel right now. It would warm his cold bones. He walked into the coffee stop and promised he would pay back the few pennies he owed on pay day. The owner only smiled and said, 'sure Chadwick, get your coffee and do stay warm today'.

Chadwick moved on ahead the two blocks to the Jesus Saves cross on the corner. It was always lit up in white lights with red words. He stood under the old cross and felt warmth radiate inside his cold body. He felt a tear come down his cheek. He knew it was the warmth of the Lord that radiated and gave warmth.

Around the corner was the shelter that served Christmas dinner. He would sign up for the early seating. To his surprise there was a sign posted. "There is a shortage of funds this year, we are asking for a donation of $5.00 per person to cover costs so that the multitudes can be fed. No one will be turned down for lack but donations are greatly appreciated. May God Bless You and Keep You.'

Chadwick understood the food donations were in short supply. He was feeling sad for his friends, and brothers and sisters in Christ. He feared many would not come because of the cost. They may be sleeping in a box, but they were also proud. He knew some of the hard heads would not join in if they had no donation to give. It broke his heart. He signed up for the early dinner, passed out his hats, tucked the cards into his pocket. He limped to stand under the cross. "Father I ask you to make a way for me to help others so they will join in the Christmas meal and be Blessed'.

God moves on hearts.

Chadwick felt chills in his body and decided he would go to his warm bed. He felt so thankful in spite of the aches that were on his body. He had a bed to go to, a roof over his head and dear friends. He knew he needed to go home to rest. He knew his answer from God would come to him in perfect timing.

Chadwick dreamed that evening he was washing windows and others were giving him money. The dream was vivid and clear. He woke with a startle and knew what he must do. He drifted into deep slumber and woke the next day refreshed and excited. He hurried along as quickly as his body would let him, to his cart. He asked the owner at the corner store to please borrow two pails and a squeegee. He had collected new newspapers from the trash bin that had not been opened. His cart was full when he left the corner store. He knew he would need to wear the armor of God and put it on before he left. He put on the helmet of salvation, the breastplate of righteousness, the shield and buckler and took the sword, the Name of Jesus with him in his Spirit.

His first stop availed nothing but ridicule. Chadwick stood in the ring. He knew who he was. He was a Child of God. The shop owner let him not say a word and shouted, 'No, we do not want any, be gone with you, now.' The second shop owner cringed and replied, 'another beggar we have a sign on our door, do you read? NO Soliciting, go get a real job Buddie. Get out, now.' Chadwick had a deep ache on his heart. He felt he needed to stand under the Cross, but it was blocks away. In His Spirit he heard, 'I am with you, I have paved the way, I will never leave nor forsake you Chadwick, Keep on.' He thought,' the cold may be getting to me.' He decided to listen to the small still voice. He was too cold to walk so he went into the shop next door.

He grit his teeth and straightened his cap. He made sure he was all put together before he walked into the clothing store. He did not think he could handle another toss out to the wind. He opened the door and heard a chime. Out came a young lady with a smile on her face. 'How may I help you today, sir?' Chadwick had not seen such a pretty thing in a while. He was nervous and almost stuttered. His mouth was dry, like cotton candy. He felt his courage drain but went on. 'Hello Maiman. I am Chadwick. I am trying to earn $5.00 to buy an extra Christmas meal for a friend of mine. I am a great, excuse me excellent window washer. I would be thankful for the work. I use a special solution and they will shine so you can see real clear.'The little lady replied, 'Well Chadwick I must speak to the manager please do sit down and wait, I will return.'

Chadwick could hear in the back a raised voice.' I do not want to pay a hobo to clean these windows, I will pay a professional.' The little lady answered back, 'You should be ashamed of yourself. Do you think you are better then him? I will pay him for the windows. I will not hear another word from you or I walk out of here.' Chadwick sat in suspense and up walked the little lady. She spoke loud and clear, 'Our windows do need clearing, oh excuse me I mean cleaning up, so one may better see out. I am so grateful you stopped in.' Her voice carried all through the small clothing store.

Chadwick had the double glass windows and glass door sparkling. The newspaper and solution was a key indeed. He was proud of his work. He cleaned up his work and felt chilled to the bone from working outside. He had to stand on his wooden crate he pulled from the cart to get high into the corners of the window. It took every inch of him to stretch that high. He knew he had some help. He opened the door and the little lady handed him a cup of hot coffee and told him to please sit while she got his money.

Little did Chadwick know while he was outside the ladies in the clothing store took a keen liking to him. They always did, but he did not know it. His heart of warmth shined in him and through him.

The woman inside shopping took up a collection for him. The owner was asked by the little lady for a denotation while the other woman shopped. 'Oh, of course she said and pulled out a $50 dollar bill whether she wanted to or not. She winced because she had no change. The little lady said, 'this will do just fine and it goes to a wonderful cause, thank you.' Marcella took it from her fingers. She walked up front and put a total of $468.00 into an envelope. She was elated and thanked God.

'Oh, Chadwick I am Marcella and it is so nice to meet you. The windows look very fine. I would like to offer you a position once per week to clean our windows and we will pay you $10.00 for your work. Will you accept our offer? I do believe our neighbor shops might be untested in having their windows cleaned. I will speak with them and I will give them an excellent referral.'

Chadwick answered, 'Miss Marcella I am thankful to clean your windows once per week. I will be back next week at at this time, if it is OK with you. Marcella shook her head yes and smiled. She handed the envelope to Chadwick. She told him there was a few extra dollars inside that may help feed some more friends.

Chadwick raced to his room as fast as he could with his dragging foot. Even though it was cold he felt so warm. He felt love in the air. It was the Love of Jesus. He was so thankful he listened the the small still voice. God had paved the way just as He promised. He reached his room and sat on his bed. He opened the envelope and started singing, throwing money all over his bed. He felt rich. Rich inside. Like he had been given a gift, so large. If he only knew how he Blessed the woman at the clothing store. They too were thrilled to give. The owner lightened up and apologized for her behavior to Marcella.

Chadwick went to the shelter the next day and turned in all the money and asked if this would take the donation sign down. Would this help with the funding. He was in glee giving Glory to the Lord. The Lord had given them favor. The sign came down and all would be fed with no sad feelings because of lack for lack at not having a donation.

IAM is with you, only call on Him

Dressed for the best.

Chadwick was dressed in his best. He shaved his face although the woman were knocking at the door asking him to hurry along. He was careful not to knick his face with his new razor. In the backgorund he heard music coming from a neighbors room, "Christ the Savior is Born'. He got chils at the thought of what God did because He so loved the world. He looked and smiled at himself in the mirrior. He straighted his cap and waited up front for his good friend Thelma. Out she came and looked so beautiful in her blue dress. It matched her eyes thought Chadwick. He helped slide her long grey woolly coat on and took her arm they walked to the shelter, hand in hand.

They took their seats and after praise and thank you to Our Lord Jesus, went to the line. A happy voice replied, 'Well, hello Mr. Chadwick, the window washer man, it is so nice to see you today and you look very handsome and your friend looks so beautiful. This is my boss Carla helping us to serve today. Enjoy your meal and see you next week.' Carla smiled and nodded her head. 'Hello Chadwick, you do fine work on our windows, thank-you, the two shops next to ours would like you to wash their windows on that day as well, are you interested? Chadwick was startled to say the least, Miss Carla please let them know I am thankful for the work and they will not be disappointed'

Oh what a glorious day it had been. Thank You Father for all my friends and brothers and sisters that ate with us today. I am so grateful to you. Chadwick shut his eyes and had a dream of a new room. It had two windows one looking over the dumpster and one looking at the mountains in the west. His new job supplied more then enough to pay for his larger new room, with a bath and more windows to see. It was no mistake that room would open up on January 1. Chadwick just did not know it, yet.

May God Bless and Keep You,

Love, Skye
